A NEW scheme aimed at boosting the rural economy across the North Warwickshire and Hinckley & Bosworth area will be launched later this year.
The partnership has secured approximately £1.4 million pounds of European funding through the LEADER Programme, which is delivered by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) which is part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
The money will be allocated to businesses, groups or organisations that can demonstrate a benefit to the local rural economy. To be successful, applications must contribute to the creation of jobs or the development of businesses in the rural areas.
A Local Action Group (LAG), consisting of local public, private and voluntary sector representatives, will have the job of assessing the applications and will decide whether the project will contribute to the overall aim of the programme.
The Borough Councils and the LAG will now work together on developing the local programme. It is anticipated that a call for applications from local organisations and businesses will be made from September 2015 but further information on this will follow shortly.
In the meantime, anyone who would like to know more about the programme or who would like to register their initial interest in applying for funding should contact Emma McKay, LEADER Development Officer at North Warwickshire Borough Council, on (01827) 719356 or via email at emmamckay@northwarks.gov.uk
